1. Make sure that the dresses fit well
2. To see the cast in the dresses juxtaposed to there regular clothes (and/or their rocky clothes)
3. To see how the dresses could perhaps be ruined or destroyed in a way that the cast could still wear them, whilst still looking more tough and rocky. For example, if we found that once they had arrived, the dresses had a couple of layers, we might have been able to tear open the first layer, showing the second layer, but having the dress still looking ruined.
Here is the before and after of our cast in their dresses.
Before:
These are the shots of them in their rocky clothing, and we will use this clothing or very similar styles for the rocky shots of our music video.
Although in our test shoot the band were kind of dressed in a rocky way, I am really thrilled with the way that the band look together in their proper rock clothing, and it has inspired many ideas from just seeing them dressed like this. For example, although they are all dressed correspondingly, Lottie the lead singer (far left) is dressed more similarly to Kat the bassist (middle right), and Connie the guitarist (middle left) is dressed more similarly to G the drummer (far right). This already, straight off the bat creates some interesting ideas that could work in the video, as it is more common that the bassist and the drummer have a chemistry together (as they are both part of the rhythm section of the band), and the lead guitarist and lead singer have the main chemistry together, but now, since we have the singer dressed similarly to the bassist, we could incorporate more shots with just those two together, and it may make more sense as they are dressed alike. Also, Connie as the guitarist could get some more shots with G the drummer without it looking too bizarre as they are both dressed more alike, which is really exciting. Having said this, they all are dressed in a slightly different way to each other member of the band which is really cool as it implements a sense of individuality in each of the band members, and it makes them look more interesting and more developed as a band.
Half barbie - Half rocky:
These are the shots that we got of the band in half barbie clothing/half rock clothing. The dress that Georgie had bought for Lottie had not come in time for this yet, and we didn't have enough time with the band for them to swap over for this picture in particular but I don't think that this was such an issue because this costume is not going to play a huge role in the music video (as the half destroyed dresses will take most of the lime light after the perfect barbie shots), and also, it was really nice to see the other band members together in there clothing without the lead singer, as sometimes the lead singer can distract from other members of the band, but in just having photos of the other band members, we can show that although the lead singer is the front man, every band member is important and fundamental in this group.
I am very happy with how these shots turned out, and I am really glad that the black and pink colour-way worked so well together, as I couldn't quite picture it before hand, but now they all look the part. Also, the fact that again all the dresses are different, and all the different black sections of their costumes are different, they can all look individual and important to the band, whilst still looking uniform and part of the same thing.
Barbie dresses:
These are the shots that we got of the whole band in their barbie dresses.
I am really happy with the way this band looks in these costumes. This is pretty much exactly how I imagined it. It is a slight shame that G's dress (far right) is slightly off colour to the rest of them, but since G is the drummer for this group, when performing, the dress won't be as visible, and also sometimes a drummer can be in the background and not very noticeable in music videos, but having the dress slightly off-colour from the other dresses should prevent this from happening so much in our video. One thing that I think we are going to have to work on, or try and get the band to do slightly better is their facial expressions for each costume. For example, Lottie and Kit (far left and middle right) look happy and are smiling in these barbie dresses, which makes them look even more barbie like, whereas Connie and G have stern facial expressions. Those kind of stern facial expressions will be perfect for the other, rocky costumes, but for these costumes, having a big fake smile on your face will only add to the barbie theme, and so I think I will try and get the band members show an appropriate facial expression according to the costume that they are wearing, and I think this will add to the effect all together.
Overall, I am very happy with how the costumes turned out, and I am very thrilled with the dresses that my other band members have bought.
