Avril Lavigne - Twitter research

As I did with Miley Cyrus, I am going to look into Avril Lavigne's use of social media, and specifically, I am going to see how she uses it to promote her general music campaign, but also how she uses it when she has an album release coming up. I am also going to see how she does this on Twitter, not on Instagram. The reason for this change of artist and this change of platform is so that we can see how different artists approach promoting a new album release, and if they do it differently on different social medias. Also, the reason I selected twitter over another network like Facebook or TikTok is that I think twitter is the most relevant and coincides best with the star image of our band (except for maybe instagram). Also our target audience is quite young, and not of the younger generation use Facebook anymore.

Here is some background information about Avril Lavigne as an artist:

- She is a Canadian singer who came onto the music scene in the early 2000s

- Her genre is a unique blend of rock, punk and pop

- She signed with Arista records in 2000

- She has sold over 30 million singles, and 40 million albums over the years

- She has made 8 EPs, 28 singles and has created 29 music videos for a collection of her songs

- Her most recent album is called "Head Above Water", and it was released in February 2019 and it sold "47,000 album equivalent units, 45,000 of them via streaming" and this is the album release that I am going to be looking at on her social media to try and see how she promotes it on twitter.

Avril Lavignes most famous song is a song called "Complicated" and it has almost 470 million views on YouTube and almost 470 million streams on Spotify as well.

This is the presentation I did on Avril Lavignes Twitter. I found this one slightly more tricky to navigate and to find posts and tweets than on Instagram because I am more experienced and more used to Instagram, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it gets me used to using it so when we have to create a Twitter account for our band, I know slightly more about how it works. Here ids the presentation.

I am pleased with how this second research task went. Again, I feel that I have learnt a lot, and now with a second and completely different observation, I can develop a slightly better understanding of how we should approach the release of our music video in particular on social media.
